Our Review Process

Step 1: Preparation and Calibration

For Coffee: Ensure all coffees are brewed using a consistent method, grind size, water temperature, and ratio.
For Equipment: Become familiar with the equipment’s instructions, ensure it’s cleaned, and if it’s a grinder or machine, calibrate it first.

Step 2: Initial Impressions

For Coffee: Note the coffee’s aroma from the bag, the bean’s appearance, and the roast date.
For Equipment: Assess the build quality, design, ergonomics, and initial user-friendliness.

Step 3: Brewing & Operation:

For Coffee: Ensure all coffees are brewed using a consistent method, grind size, water temperature, and ratio.
For Equipment: Operate the equipment. For machines, note the warm-up time, noise level, and any special features. For manual tools like grinders or presses, evaluate ease of use.

Step 4: Tasting & Evaluation:

For Coffee: Taste the coffee using standard cupping protocols or a consistent tasting method. Evaluate aroma, flavor, aftertaste, acidity, body, and balance.
For Equipment: For machines, taste the coffee it produces. For other equipment, evaluate the quality of the grind, press, or other relevant outputs.

Step 5: Comparison:

For Coffee: Compare the coffee to others of a similar origin, processing method, or roast level. Highlight what sets it apart.
For Equipment: Compare the equipment to similar items in the same price range or category. This helps potential buyers understand the value proposition.

Step 6: Longevity & Consistency Test:

For Coffee: Brew the coffee several times over days or weeks to understand how flavor profiles change over time or with different brewing methods.
For Equipment: Use the equipment over a period (days or weeks) to check its durability, consistency, and any maintenance or cleaning needs.

Step 7: Summary & Recommendation:

  • Review all observations and feedback.
  • Highlight the strengths and weaknesses.
  • Provide a recommendation: Who is the coffee or equipment best suited for? Is it worth its price? Any particular considerations or tips for potential users?
