Why Choose OXO?
The OXO Brew 9-Cup Coffee Maker was designed to regulate brew time, water temperature and volume. The three important variables that can make or break a pot of coffee. Just add water and ground coffee and select the number of cups to brew and the machine will handle the rest. The OXO Brew 9-Cup Coffee Maker is recognized as an excellent homebrewer by the SCA (Specialty Coffee Association) for delivering rich, gold-standard coffee every time.
Features and Benefits
The Oxo Coffee Maker has an ability to regulate 3 main variables in coffee brewing: temperature, time and volume.
This brewer maintains an ideal water temperature of 197.6 – 204.8 degrees Fahrenheit during the brewing process. The problem with other brewers and especially manual brewing options are that the water temperature greatly decreases over time as you are brewing.
So an ordinary brewer might start out by adding water that’s 205 but finish by adding water at 185 which is below the recommended brewing temperature of 195-205.
The Oxo Barista Brain has a computer controlled brew cycle, meaning it will produce the same amount of coffee in the same amount of time, every time you will use it. And once you choose your preferred cup size, the water will just pump automatically and will adjust to produce the right amount of coffee.
Overall, you can expect the same high-quality cup of coffee everyday.
Easy dosing for 2-9 cups of coffee with a clear water reservoir
One of my favorite points about the OXO On Barista Brain is the large, clear and transparent water reservoir.
It’s so easy to fill the water to the reservoir, plus, the transparent plastic allows you to easily see the water level and 2 to 9 cup markings. It’s amazing how many coffee makers blow it with the water reservoir when it comes to these 3 considerations, so it was a relief to see that OXO got this right.
The coffee maker either dispenses 2-4 cups of water or 5-9 cups of water with its built-in serving size selector. So this is basically like most auto-drip coffee makers in that it simply dispenses all the water that is in the reservoir during a brew cycle.
Brewing in 3 quick steps
After you’ve added the water and ground coffee, brewing is actually as easy as 1-2-3.
Just press the button, select 2-4 cups or 5-9 cups by turning the dial on the OXO button, then press the OXO button one more time to start the brew cycle.
Activating the timer is almost as easy. Just long press the button to access the brew timer, set your time, the number of cups you want to brew and press the OXO button once more.
Then a clock icon will show up and the coffee maker will be set to brew for whatever time you set.
Vacuum Insulated Carafe
The vacuum insulated carafe is designed and made of stainless steel to look great and also to keep your coffee hot for a longer period.
Unlike the glass made coffee pot can have a problem since it is typically sitting on top of a warming plate, then warming plate continues to heat the coffee and produces a burned, sometimes resulting in the unappealing tasting of coffee.
That’s why the steel carafe is designed to keep your coffee perfectly hot for a longer period without burning the coffee.
Plus it’s easy to clean, so it won’t always smell like old coffee.
- SCAA Certified for high quality, consistent brews.
- Water kept at optimal brewing temperature for the duration of the brew cycle.
- The minimal design looks sleek on the counter and makes brewing simple.
- Brew cycle replicates a pour over by distributing water in timed cycles rather than pouring water on all at once.
- Double walled carafe keeps your coffee hot without burning it on a heat plate.
- The high price tag might be out of reach for some people.
Alternatives to the Oxo On 9 Cup Coffee Maker
The Bonavita Coffee Brewer is the least expensive in this group, but that doesn’t mean it’s a low brewer.
This coffee maker has a big shower head for optimal saturation of the coffee grounds. While not quite as sleek as the Oxo brewer, but this machine can compete when comes in quality and has room for a little more variation.
Behmor Brazen Plus Temperature Control Coffee Maker
Behmor is a company known for its home coffee roasters, but now they have their own brewer machine as well.
The structure is closer to a traditional coffee pot. It’s taller but takes up less space on the countertop. It also has a few buttons where you can customize your brew to add preinfusion and pulsed water flow.
With a medium price tag, programmability and a reusable filter, this may be the brewer calling your name.
The Final Drip
The OXO BREW 9 Cup Coffee Maker is an excellent choice for those who want an SCAA Certified coffee maker that can make the most amount of coffee offering both 9-cup and 12-cup models.
If you have a room for it in your kitchen, then it seems like a better option than the Bonavita BV1900TS for its reservoir alone.
However, if a programmable timer isn’t important to you, the Bonavita BV1900TS seems like a no-brainer option.
The BV1900TS is less expensive, and it has better carafe. Plus, the BV1900TS brews more quickly than the Barista Brain.h
